Getting Started

Set up your studio and start scheduling lessons in minutes.

  1. 1Click Start Free Trial on our homepage
  2. 2Sign up with your email or Google account
  3. 3You'll get a 30-day free trial of Legato Pro with access to all features — no credit card required
  1. 1Head to Settings → Public Profile
  2. 2Add your name, photo, and instruments you teach
  3. 3Write a short bio describing your teaching style and experience
  4. 4This information shows on your public booking page and helps prospective students find you
  1. 1Go to Settings → Scheduling
  2. 2Configure your available days and hours, default lesson duration, and timezone
  3. 3Go to Settings → Financial Policy to set your hourly rate and cancellation terms
  4. 4These settings apply to all new lessons by default
  1. 1Go to Settings → Billing
  2. 2Click Connect Stripe Account
  3. 3Follow the Stripe onboarding flow to connect your bank account
  4. 4Once connected, you can send invoices and accept credit card payments directly through Legato
  1. 1Navigate to the Students tab in the sidebar
  2. 2Click Add Student (or the + icon on mobile)
  3. 3Enter their name and email address
  4. 4They'll receive an invitation to create their own student portal where they can view lessons, materials, and invoices
  1. 1Go to Settings → Public Profile
  2. 2Copy your unique booking link (e.g. getlegato.com/book/your-name)
  3. 3Make sure Accept New Students is toggled on
  4. 4Share it on social media, your website, or anywhere prospective students might find you

Students & Scheduling

Master your lesson schedule with recurring events and calendar management.

  1. 1Open the Calendar tab
  2. 2Click on a time slot, or use the + button
  3. 3Select the student, set the duration and time
  4. 4Save — the student will see it in their portal automatically
  1. 1In your Calendar, click on the lesson you want to change
  2. 2To cancel: choose Cancelled Early (no charge) or Cancelled Late (charged per your policy)
  3. 3To reschedule: drag the lesson to a new time slot, or edit and pick a new date/time
  1. 1Go to Settings → Public Profile
  2. 2Make sure Accept New Students is toggled on
  3. 3Copy your booking page link and share it — prospective students can view your profile and request a trial lesson without needing an account
  1. 1You'll receive an email notification with their details
  2. 2The student will appear in your Students list
  3. 3From there, schedule their first lesson and start managing them through Legato
  1. 1When creating a lesson, toggle on Recurring
  2. 2Set the frequency (weekly, bi-weekly, etc.)
  3. 3Legato will automatically generate future lessons based on your schedule
  4. 4You can edit or cancel individual instances without affecting the series

Payments & Billing

Set up payment processing, send invoices, and track revenue.

  1. 1Go to the Financials tab
  2. 2Click Create Invoice
  3. 3Select the student and add line items for lessons or other charges
  4. 4Click Send — the student receives an email with a secure payment link

Stripe typically transfers funds to your bank account within 2–7 business days after a payment is made, depending on your country. You can check the status anytime in your Stripe dashboard.

  1. 1Go to Settings → Financial Policy
  2. 2Configure your monthly billing cycles and rates
  3. 3Legato will automatically generate invoices for your students based on lessons taught during each billing period

Stripe charges a standard processing fee (typically 2.9% + 30¢ per transaction in the US). Legato does not take any additional cut from your payments.

  1. 1Navigate to the payment in your Financials tab
  2. 2Find the invoice and select the option to issue a refund
  3. 3Choose full or partial refund
  4. 4The refund will be processed through Stripe and returned to the student's original payment method

Student Portal

Everything students see and can do in their own portal.

Students have access to:

  • Upcoming and past lessons
  • Practice materials and repertoire you've shared
  • Invoices and payment history
  • Your studio policies
  1. 1When you add a student's email, they receive an invitation
  2. 2They click the link and create an account (or sign in with Google)
  3. 3After that, they can log in anytime at getlegato.com/login
  1. 1Open a student's profile and go to the Repertoire section
  2. 2Add pieces and practice materials
  3. 3Everything you add will be visible in the student's portal

No, student portal access is completely free. Students can view their lessons, materials, and invoices at no cost. Only teachers need a Legato subscription.

Studio Settings

Customize your Legato experience with preferences and configurations.

  1. 1Go to Settings → Scheduling
  2. 2Set your default lesson duration (30, 45, or 60 minutes)
  3. 3This will be pre-selected whenever you schedule a new lesson
  1. 1Go to Settings → Financial Policy
  2. 2Define your cancellation window (e.g. 24 hours before the lesson)
  3. 3Lessons cancelled within this window will be marked as "late cancellation" and charged per your policy
  1. 1Go to Settings → Public Profile
  2. 2Fill in your bio, upload a profile photo, and add your instruments
  3. 3Customize your booking URL slug
  4. 4Toggle Accept New Students on to make the page live
  1. 1Go to Settings → Scheduling
  2. 2Select your timezone from the dropdown
  3. 3All lesson times will update to display in your selected timezone

Account & Security

Keep your data safe and manage your privacy settings.

  1. 1Go to Settings → Account
  2. 2Click Change Password
  3. 3If you signed up with Google, you can add a password from this same page

Yes — Legato uses industry-standard security:

  • Encryption for all data in transit and at rest
  • Secure authentication via Supabase
  • PCI-compliant payments through Stripe
  • Your data is never sold or shared

  3. 3All your data will be permanently removed within 30 days

Mobile App

Install Legato as a progressive web app on any device.

Legato works as a Progressive Web App (PWA) — no app store needed. Install it directly from your browser for a native app-like experience with offline support.

  2. 2Tap the Share button (the square with an arrow)
  3. 3Tap "Add to Home Screen"
  4. 4Legato will appear as an app icon on your home screen
  1. 1Open getlegato.com in Chrome
  2. 2Tap the menu (⋮)
  3. 3Tap "Install App" or "Add to Home Screen"
  4. 4Legato will appear in your app drawer
  1. 1In Chrome, click the install icon in the address bar (looks like a monitor with a download arrow)
  2. 2Or go to Menu → "Install Legato"
  3. 3Legato will open as a standalone app window
